Petition to safeguard Bingham Post Office

Post Petition

Cross-party activists and local residents working with our local Labour MP Bob Marshall-Andrews QC MP campaiged hard to keep Bingham Post Office open. Labour Councillor, Stephen Hubbard collected a significant number signatures that were presented to Medway Council on behalf of local residents to keep the office open. Despite this however the national post office announced its closure in December 2007.

Collecting Signatures for our local post office

Post Petition

Our campaign involved formally submitted our objection via petition, campaign and written letter to the Post Office consulation which began in October to which we requested they reconsider their attempt to close Bingham Post office. We believed that the branch was crucial for local residents living in the communities of Strood, Frindsbury & Wainscott.

The announcement of the closure came from the Post Office in early December 2007. Stephen and all the Labour team wish to thank all those residents who signed the petition against the closure (organised by Mr Jassal the postmaster) or who wrote to the Post Office to register their opinion. We had support from Strood, Frindsbury & Wainscott residents, local businesses on Medway City Estate and many customers from further a field.

Commenting on the closure Bob Marshall-Andrews MP said, "Your Labour Councillors gained cross party support at Medway Council and I believe we have done all we could do to save our local post office."
