Medway Council tax soars by 2.95% in 2010

Tax Rise

Despite promises by local Tories at the local elections, Council tax in Medway has soared by an eye-watering three per cent in 2010, sending the average household bill close to the £1,300 mark. The rise comes despite local Strood Tory councillors pledging to keep council tax affordable to local residents in Strood.

Meanwhile Strood suffers Tory neglect...

The rise in council tax comes at a time when residents in Strood have suffered as local services have been cut including; the closure of Shaws Wood peoples the £800,000 cost closure of Strood Civic Centre, the reducation in services at Strood sports centre, holes in major roads, cuts in bus passes to pensioners, reduction in funding for greenspaces and lack of funding for care to the elderly.

Strood is suffering because the Tories have squandered vast sums on unwanted pet projects. A Band D household in Strood will now pay £1,125 for the pleasure of having Strood Tory councillors who cant fight our corner.

Medway Tories have put up council tax every year they have been in office. There promises are a smokescreen for a spendthrift council with poor operational control over cost.
